School of Management Studies (SOMS)

The Indira Gandhi National Open University offers MBA programmes in India and foreign countries (outside India) under the School of Management Studies. Starting its operation in 1987, the School of Management Studies (SOMS) today offers eleven Management Programmes consisting of 78 courses. The MBA Programme at IGNOU consists of 21 different courses.

The MBA Programmes at IGNOU comprise of Diploma in Management (DIM), Post-Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDIM), PGSDM and Integrative Module. Diploma in Management consists of three compulsory courses and two elective courses to be chosen out of four elective courses. Post-Graduate Diploma in Management consists of 11 compulsory courses and PGSDM 5 courses as a part of the MBA programme. Integrative Module consists of 2 compulsory courses and one elective course out of any 5 elective courses and a project course which is equivalent to 2 courses at the Indira Gandhi National Open University.

Eligibility to Pursue Master of Business Administration (MBA) at IGNOU: Graduation in any discipline with 50 per cent marks for general category candidates and 45 per cent maks for reserved category candidates with 3 years managerial, supervisory or professional experience. Professional Degree with 50 per cent marks in Chartered Accountancy (ICAI), Medicine, Cost and Works Accountancy (ICWAI), Chartered Secretary-ship (ICSI), Engineering or Law. Students have to qualify in the Openmat Entrance Exam conducted by IGNOU to take admission to distance MBA programmes in the Indira Gandhi National Open University. There is no upper age limit for admission in or to pursue MBA at IGNOU.
